Acute Incontinence

Incontinence is the inability to control urination. The condition, most commonly found in the elderly and more often in women, can range in varying forms of severity including an occasional leakage of urine, to the extreme situation where a patient has a complete inability to hold any urine.   Acute incontinence is typically caused by sudden changes in the urinary tract (such as having an infection or childbirth) or changes in the ability to urinate. Mental confusion, limited or restricted mobility, infections, certain medications and other psychological factors are some of the most common causes of acute incontinence.  The condition can typically be treated once the cause has been found.
