Functional Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine that can affect a man or a woman and occur at any time of the day or night.  Although it is a very common problem, it can be stressful and overwhelming for the person that experiences it leading to anxiety and stress.  Functional incontinence is the most common form of incontinence for elderly people who are experiencing the side effects and symptoms from Alzheimers, Parkinsons and Arthritis.  Many times, people afflicted with functional incontinence simply cannot make it to the bathroom on time or at all due to a functional limitation (such as slow or restrictive movement, the incapacity to think or the inability to communicate).  Behavior modifications such as biofeedback therapy can help.  In addition, certain medications can be prescribed as well as effective surgeries, devices and procedures to help limit or eliminate the problem.
