Nephrotic syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is a disorder in which the kidneys become infected thus leaking high amounts of protein in the blood and urine.  Intense swelling in the eyes, feet and hands are the most common symptom of this syndrome as well as having high cholesterol levels. Many times, the exact cause of nephrotic syndrome is unknown; however, the condition is usually linked to an infection or other disease associated with the kidneys.  By limiting protein in the diet and implementing an overall healthier eating pattern many patients can eliminate some of the symptoms. Medications are also available to control blood pressure and cholesterol which ultimately helps to treat the condition.
