Hematuria is when blood is found in the urine. In some cases, this blood will be seen by the naked eye while in others, it is only visible under a microscope. There are many factors that may cause hematuria and some are not serious; for example, too much exercise may cause hematuria.

There are other conditions, however, that are very serious causes of hematura. Bladder and kidney cancers, chronic or acute bladder infections, tumors, an enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, and other serious conditions are also causes of hematuria.

A urinalysis is the examination of one’s urine and can be used to determine if in fact there is blood in the urine. Blood tests an also be conducted to reveal certain diseases such as kidney disease.

Treatment for hematuria depends on what is causing the blood in the urine. If the condition is not serious, then hematuria will go away on its own. If the condition is serious, then treatment for that condition will need to be required (for example, treating a kidney disorder or a bladder infection).
