Cryotherapy is a pain treatment procedure where localized freezing temperatures are used in order to deaden or kill an irritated nerve. The method is often used to treat localized areas of some cancers such as the prostrate and to treat abnormal skin cells by dermatologists. The procedure is relatively simple to implement; for example, during a prostate operation, probes are placed in the prostrate, the temperature of the probes decreases to a point of freezing, and they are then placed on the nerve ending effectively killing it. The procedure is typically performed within the doctor’s office and can successfully treat many forms of nerve entrapment conditions.
