A urinalysis represents a myriad of physical and chemical tests performed in order to test urine. The reason a physician might order a urinalysis is to see if a medical condition exists within the urine. A dipstick is the first test a doctor will usually use because once urine hits the stick it will change colors depicting varying levels of PH, proteins, etc. within the urine. There are other ways to test urine as well, including microscopic analysis or a uroscopy (although this procedure is not as commonly used).
